CUBA SCORE BIG AT PAN AM GAMES

Cuba top the medal tally at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto as four days of thrilling competition drew to a close at the World Class Canoe Sprint course in Welland.
Hosts Canada equalled Cuba's incredible haul of 10 medals over the 13 events but were outscored by colour with their southern rivals topping the podium on six occasions to their four.
Yusmari Menganna was responsible for half the Cuban gold rush and had the event of her life with three podium topping performances; whilst Jorge Garcia also stepped on the top of the podium on the three occasions.
Menganna won the K1W 200m and 500m, then moved on to dominated the K2M 500m with teammate Yerieni Guerra, and Garcia won the K1M 1000m, plus two team events, the K2M 200m and the K4M 1000m.
Brazil's Isaquias Queiroz Dos Santos was another star and continued his winning ways crossing the line first in the C1M 1000m and C1M 200m, he then teamed up with Erlon De Souza (BRA) to take silver in the C2M 1000m.
The 21-year-old exploded on the international stage three years ago and has picked up a host of medals at the very top level of the sport; with just a year to go to the Olympic Games roll into Rio expectations on the young champs shoulders continue to rise.
Another to multiple medallist was Canada's Mark De Jonge, the fastest paddler on the planet crossed the line first in his favoured K1M 200m and then joined forces with Pierre-Luc Poulin to take bronze in the K2M 200m.
Local K4W 500m success was another highlight as was multiple-World Champion Laurence Vincent Lapointe's outstanding performance that provided her another gold in the C1W 200m.
Next up is the Canoe Slalom Championships that run from the 18-19 July.
